Help Establish The Indic Finger-Spelling Alphabet
We have modified Ekushey typing system
to analyse a Bengali corpus to get valuable letter frequency
data, revealing a wide spread of letter frequency from 14% (
) right down to 0.01% (
&
). We also have data on the Panjabi language.
We are looking for letter frequency
analysis data of the other major Indic languages. Most important are Hindi,
Gujurati, Marathi, Tamil, Telegu & Urdu. Second best would be a corpora and systems to analyse them.
Chhattisgarhi, Chittagonian, Gujarati, Haryanvi, Kashmiri, Magahi, Marwari,
Nepali, Sindhi & Sylheti are of secondary importance, but data would still
be very useful.
To pilot the new finger spelling standard in India and Bangladesh we will need . If you are a sign language teacher or are
responsible for a deaf educational institution and are interested to get

The finger spelling standard will be distributed over the
Internet by means not only of training documents but also through a Finger
Spelling Font and an interactive piece of software for training students and
teachers. We are therefore seeking the services of a fontographer to make
the font and a programmer to make the
training software. If you are interested, do get in touch at
