Anti-Spam Tips - How to Get Less Spam…

Who knows how many man hours are wasted by spam worldwide?... It's unlikely to stop as long as the money system continues to have such importance in our lives. In the meantime, here are some tips & tools so you can publish your address more safely...

1. Protect your inbox by publishing your address as an image, so bots can't find it*.

2. To show your E-mail in text format, even with the mailto: tag, it is much safer* to
use javascript to write your email address.
3. Make crawler bots less profitable by publishing a non-existent address - e.g. noone@any-bogus-name.net or even a whole page of useless emails to slow them down. Owning a domain gives you unlimited Email addresses, so if you have one, then make the most of it!

4. Use dynamic code can protect your email address even if you publish it as a mailto:
5. At www.example.com, give your E-mail as www.example.com@yourdomain.com.
If you start to get spam at this address, you know who sent it, so just forward it back to them!

*2004-02-12: I don't know of any bots which trawl the web for Emails addresses either in javascript or in images; if you do, please let me know!
