Under-Evaluation

The blue guy shown below predicts an evaluation which is lower than anyone else. This can work to restore the credibility of his self-evaluations, but it effectively signals to other people that they should be less inclined to work to satisfy his request to the requests of others.

There is a loose parallel with someone who bids much lower at an auction than he is really prepared to pay. By refraining from bidding on, he runs the risk of being outbid.
